Before the handoff
FoldCrypt is still in development. The public download will open only when the Mac build is ready.
It puts a password on an existing folder. When locked, the folder becomes an encrypted .foldcrypt item in the same location. Enter the password to open it, work normally, then close it again.
That is the workflow FoldCrypt is being built around. Compatibility testing is still in progress; the verified macOS, drive, and file-system list will be published before release. Always test on backed-up, non-critical material first.
They can use every folder you leave open. A protected folder requires FoldCrypt and the correct password or recovery key. FoldCrypt is folder protection, not a per-person permission system.
No cloud account is required. FoldCrypt protects the folder on the storage you choose. It does not include cloud storage or move the project into an online workspace.
Use the recovery key that FoldCrypt shows when the folder is first protected. If you lose both the password and recovery key, the data cannot be recovered. Keep a separate backup.
