Three simple steps

Lock a folder. Pass the drive.

No new project structure. No cloud migration. No technical setup for the people receiving the open folders.

1

Choose a folder.

Select the existing folder that should stay private.

2

Add a password.

FoldCrypt protects it in the same place on the drive.

3

Share the drive.

Everything else remains open to your collaborators.

Made for drives that move

Built for creative handoffs.

From set to post, studio to client, one physical drive can hold shared work and private material.

Film & post-production

Share the media. Protect the production.

Keep footage, proxies, and exports moving. Lock budgets, contracts, releases, private references, and unreleased cuts.

Directors · producers · editors · DITs

Photography

Hand over the job drive with confidence.

Leave selects and exports available while private shoots, client documents, and personal archives stay protected.

Photographers · assistants · retouchers

Design studios

Share working files, not everything.

Collaborate on assets without exposing estimates, contracts, source material, or concepts that are not ready to be seen.

Straight answers

Private by design. Honest about the limits.

FoldCrypt uses the encryption engine built into macOS. It protects selected folders; it does not replace a backup or a team identity system.

AES-256Encrypted sparse images created by macOS.
Never storedYour password is passed securely and not saved.
Shown onceKeep the recovery key somewhere separate.
Backup still mattersEncryption protects access, not against drive failure.

Before the handoff

Questions, answered plainly.

FoldCrypt is still in development. The public download will open only when the Mac build is ready.

What does FoldCrypt actually do?

It puts a password on an existing folder. When locked, the folder becomes an encrypted .foldcrypt item in the same location. Enter the password to open it, work normally, then close it again.

Can I use it on an external SSD or RAID?

That is the workflow FoldCrypt is being built around. Compatibility testing is still in progress; the verified macOS, drive, and file-system list will be published before release. Always test on backed-up, non-critical material first.

What can the person receiving the drive see?

They can use every folder you leave open. A protected folder requires FoldCrypt and the correct password or recovery key. FoldCrypt is folder protection, not a per-person permission system.

Does it upload anything to the cloud?

No cloud account is required. FoldCrypt protects the folder on the storage you choose. It does not include cloud storage or move the project into an online workspace.

What happens if I forget the password?

Use the recovery key that FoldCrypt shows when the folder is first protected. If you lose both the password and recovery key, the data cannot be recovered. Keep a separate backup.

Can I download FoldCrypt now?

Not yet. FoldCrypt is still in development and there is no public download. The Mac app will be released only when the build is ready for external testing and distribution.

For the next person in the workflow

Know someone who shares project drives?

Send them FoldCrypt before the SSD, RAID, or archive drive leaves their desk.
